The following pictures are the eerie remains of basements in Greensburg Kansas after cleanup 6 months from the May 2007 tornado event.

These pictures lead to the indisputable conclusion that even though underground, a basement alone is not safe in the event of a tornado.

A separate certified safe room placed in the basement, properly anchored to the floor, offers the best chance of survival and protection.
